"The Changing Marketplace for Independent Film Distribution"
Networking is always fun at the Media Professionals of Florida's meetings and this one was no exception! There is always a light dinner at every meeting.
Our president, David Pless, opened the first meeting of 2010 and welcomed guests and new members.
Steve Brown, president of 1020 Productions, provided a great bonus track about Florida Sales Tax Exemption. Steve spoke from the perspective of media production companies.
Saving money on taxes is very important to small businesses. If you purchase production equipment for your company, the savings could be hundreds of dollars. That’s more money kept in the business.
Parts of the online application can be confusing. Take your time. Steve Brown mentioned there is a toll free help line if you have any questions about the forms.
Most members of MPFI are production specialists and not familiar with the selling of finished video productions. Ron Satlof had the full attention of the audience when he shared his experience with selling and promoting video productions and features.
Scenes from Misconceptions produced by Ron Satlof. Ron’s film feature has received critical acclaim. For Ron, once the production wraps, there is still the hard work involved in selling and distributing.
This scene shows Orlando Jones, Sarah Carter and A. J. Cook. The movie "Misconceptions" takes a serious and sometimes comical look at the culture clashes that can occur.
Producer Ron Satlof shares his long experience in movie production and distribution. Ron has kept up with the changing marketplace of movie feature distribution. The MPFI audience learned how to sell rights to video products while maintaining control.
A. J. Cook, one of the stars of Ron Satlof’s movie entitled "Misconceptions," shares a happy thought with Ron.
For your friends who don't know what the film's about here's a short synopsis:

This lighthearted comedy pokes fun at the culture wars and the debate over same-sex parenting. Southern gal Miranda is an Evangelical Christian with all the social and political beliefs dictated by her church, but when she gets what she's sure is a message from God, she does a 180 and decides to become a surrogate mother for a married gay couple from Boston.
It's a weird enough situation as it is, but things get even crazier for Miranda when one of her baby-daddies-to-be decides to come down South for a visit -- and won't leave!
